ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY!
Exactly a year ago I began this blog/web page. I wanted to share my fascination with the Atlanta NY D,L&W rail station.
From and early age I was riding on trains or playing with trains. My dad was a model train enthusiast and by the time I came along had built a number of model train layouts. When I got to an age that I could remember he was working on a 4 foot by 10 foot layout in our basement. This was a piece of craftsmanship with a city, switch yard, lake with river, bridges you name it. from 1968 to about 1977 we lived three doors down from the Lehigh Valley railroad corridor. there were two active lines running through the sleepy little hamlet of Mendon. Today the corridor is the Monroe County Linear trail, and the section where the Mendon Station once stood is now known as Mendon Station Park. I am proud to tell you I had a hand in the creation of both.
I am the handsome one in the middle. My mom and sister. I believe we are about to board the Arcade & Attica railroad. This photo is from around 1965 or 66.
I would like to thank my dad for his love of trains and his desire to be part of a nice community. His birthday is February 13, he would have been 83. He passed in 1999.
