Sunday's in Atlanta

I have made a commitment to spending time each Sunday, (except when the Mrs. has other plans for me) in Atlanta working on the Depot. I have the same goal each visit: uncover and repair one window. That is the goal, it may just be one sash or hopefully two so that one entire window is back to “ normal” Along the way I make notes on additional work needed, like replacing or repairing the hardware, sill or wood. A number of sash’s have been painted in place for years, when I am able I have scraped off the three or four layers of paint and have prepared at least what I have had my hands on.On May 22, I began the final phase of the office window project, The Big Bay window that overlooked the tracks. This bay window has the stationmaster’s desk built into it. The outside lower sash’s had bars in front of them for years to protect them from misguided baggage carts and hand trucks. The west most upper sash had holes from the first rock throwing incident in two of the panes, the lower sash had new panes installed by the perpetrators fathers, but they had never been glazed. And after I glazed three of the panes” I found out the hard way” the fourth had been installed over the top of one unnoticed glazing point and when I began to glaze it, the glass cracked. I guess I will add that to next Sunday’s list.In addition I brought pre-cut plywood blanks to place in the second floor window casings. I removed the old stationary sash’s and brought them home to join the other damaged & deteriorated sash’s that I will need to have repaired or replaced, more on that next segment.
